Dr. Sabawoon's Lecture Report at Osaka University
On October 20, 2023, Dr. Wrishmeen Sabawoon delivered a lecture at Osaka University's General Education Promotion Organization regarding efforts related to Afghanistan and polio eradication.
At the beginning of the lecture, students associated Afghanistan with "war," "deserts," and "a crucial crossroads on the Silk Road." However, as they learned about the country's rich natural resources, culture, and the current situation following the end of the 20-year Afghan war, their perception underwent significant changes.
Dr. Sabawoon emphasized the improved security situation in Afghanistan since the return of the Taliban to power. He also pointed out significant progress in drug regulation and support for drug addicts. However, he addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis and gender discrimination that still persists and raised questions about the necessary support and cooperation that should be set in place.
Furthermore, Dr. Sabawoon touched upon the current status of polio eradication in the country and Japan's role in this effort. He emphasized that the key to eradicating polio on a global scale lies in widespread vaccination of the entire population.
